Council Chambers

A meeting of the Kaukauna Veterans Memorial Park Association was called to order at 3:40 p.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2014, by President Rosin.

Members Present: Mayor Gene Rosin, Eugene Schaefer, Brian Roebke, Mike Weaver, Lisa Wolfinger, Andrea Meulemans.

Absent and Excused: Troy Hanson, Tim Roehrig.

1.    A motion to approve the minutes of the June 25, 2014, meeting was made by Schaefer, seconded by Weaver. All members voted aye. Motion carried.

2.     Citizen member, Andrea Meulemans, was introduced to the Association members. She was involved from the beginning of the Ring of Honor project through her Civic Engagement Class.

Meulemans was asked if she was willing to take over the brick ordering. She agreed. Records will be turned over to Andrea with instructions to follow up with Roehrig with questions about the ordering process. Schaefer brought along the newest orders which Meulemans will process in order to get them submitted for installation by September or early October for the Veteran’s Day ceremony on November 11, 2014.

Schaefer stated that there currently is $12,747.73 in the KVMPA checking account from brick orders and donations, $5.00 in a savings account, and approximately $3,000 in an account with the City of Kaukauna. After this order is purchased and paid for, the accounts at the Credit Union will be closed and monies will be deposited and managed with the City.

Schaefer will still receive brick orders, but Meulemans will place the orders.

Schaefer requested that an ad be run in the paper or put on our website that orders for bricks can be placed at City Hall. When a minimum number is reached for an order, one will be placed.

3.    Mayor Rosin read a letter of resignation from Association member, Gary Wolf, to be placed on file. Schaefer suggested a replacement for Wolf’s position with a representative from the American Legion. Mayor will speak with someone from the Legion to see if there is a Kaukauna resident willing to fill Wolf’s spot.

4.    Roebke inquired about experimenting with turning off the decorative lighting on Lawe Street. Mayor will ask DPW to remove the bulbs for a month to see if it makes a difference with interference to lighting at the Ring of Honor. If it does, Mayor will arrange for removal of the lamp posts.

5.    Weaver inquired about the replacement benches, stating they still have not been exchanged, and that it has been eight months. The benches need to be installed before Veteran’s Day. Mayor will follow up with the Street Department.

A motion to adjourn at 4:05 p.m. was made by Schaefer, seconded by Wolfinger. All members voted aye. Motion carried.
