Alley Paving Project – Wk of 09/26/22

Posted on Sep 23, 2022 by

he excavation work is complete, and a first mat of asphalt has been placed on the 7th/8th alley (west).  Friday afternoon the concrete contractor placed curb along the 8th/9th alley (east). Check out the weekly update map here.

WEST ALLEYS BETWEEN 6TH/7TH & 7TH/8TH AREAS:

CONSTRUCTION

The excavation contractor has completed the asphalt removal, excavation, and stone placement in these alleys.  The pavement contractor finished the fine grading on the 6th/7th and 7th/8th alleys on September 15th.  The paving contractor paved a lower mat of asphalt on 7th/8th alley on September 20th. The asphalt paving for these alleys may be done later the week of September 26th.  Another notice will be sent when we get a date for paving.

EAST ALLEYS BETWEEN 10TH/9TH, 9TH/8TH & 8TH/DODGE AREAS:

CONSTRUCTION

The excavation contractor has completed the storm sewer work, excavation and stone placement on the Dodge/8th, 8th/9th, and the 9th/10th alleys.

The concrete contractor has placed curb on the 8th/9th alley on the afternoon of September 23rd. They will be placing curb at the east end of the Dodge/8th alley possibly the week of September 26th.  The paving contractor will fine grade these alleys about a week after the concrete work is finished.  Shortly after that the paving contractor should pave the alleys.

DRIVEWAYS/PARKING

Access to your driveway may be restricted when construction is happening on your block. The contractor performing the work uses large machines, dump trucks, and needs ample space to store needed items for the work being performed. Please find an alternate parking space during the day if you need to come and go. You may park on side streets or areas where work is not actively happening (see attached drawing showing where NOT to park on streets). Driveways will be closed until the stone has been placed and graded. Construction normally begins by 7:00am each day.

  • If you need special accommodations for parking, please reach out as we can arrange for different parking options if we know about them. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately, there is not a one size fits all for parking and the fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done and finish the neighborhood.

SAFETY

While work is taking place, the alleys will be closed to traffic.  Please do not try to drive down the alleys while excavation and stone placement is taking place, there will be large equipment and dumps moving around.  Please keep children away from the construction. Operators try their best to see what might be near the equipment, but their view can be obstructed at times.

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WORK AND SCHEDULE CAN CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER OR UNFORSEEN CONSTRUCTION DELAYS. THESE UPDATES ARE TO AID THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS AS WE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT IN A TIMELY MANNER*

Utility and street construction is not easy. There will be dirt, mud, dust, and construction equipment everywhere. Construction activity will be noisy and getting to your residence will be difficult at times. We ask for your patience and understanding as we make the necessary improvements to your street and utilities. Do not hesitate to contact the City with questions or concerns, we can’t help if we don’t know.
