Kenneth Avenue Area Utility Relay Project – Wk of 08/29/22
Click here for proposed work locations and possible impacts to residents for the week of August 29th.
WHITNEY STREET, 6TH STREET, 7TH STREET, & 8TH STREET AREAS:
SEWER CONSTRUCTION
There will be 2 sewer crews working all week next week. The main line crew will spend Monday & Tuesday working on the Sewer main on Hendricks between 8th and 9th Street. Once they finish that, they will join the lateral crew and work on Sanitary Laterals and Water Services to the property lines within the Right of Way (back of sidewalk on each side) on 8th Street. Both crews will continue with lateral work for the remainder of the week.
PAVEMENT CONSTRUCTION
Northeast Asphalt, the paving contractor, has come to 7th and began working on Friday, 08/26. On Monday & Tuesday, they will be working to remove all existing pavement and prep the roadway for new asphalt on all of 7th Street, as well as Sullivan, Hendricks, and Main Avenue between 7th and 8th Street. They plan to pave these areas on Wednesday and Thursday. Please allow a few hours for Asphalt Pavement to cool before driving on it. Asphalt can be near 300°F when it is placed and gains its strength once compacted and cooled.
DRIVEWAYS/PARKING
Access to your driveway may be restricted when construction is happening on your block. The contractor performing the work uses large machines, dump trucks, and needs ample space to store the items needed for the work being performed. Please find an alternate parking space during the day if you need to come and go. You may park on side streets or areas where work is not actively happening (see above work locations map showing where NOT to park on streets). Driveways will be opened and accessible at the end of each day as construction is ending. You may park overnight in your driveway. Construction normally begins by 7:00am each day, so please move your vehicles accordingly.
- If you need special accommodations for parking, please reach out as we can arrange for different parking options if we know about them. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately, there is not a one size fits all for parking and the fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done and finish the neighborhood.
SAFETY
While driving through the construction site, be sure to travel slowly and keep an eye out for equipment. This not only cuts down on the dust, but also keeps the construction workers safe. Operators try their best to see traffic, but their view can be obstructed at times. It is always best to try and gain eye contact with equipment operators prior to driving by.
*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WORK AND SCHEDULE CAN CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER OR UNFORSEEN CONSTRUCTION DELAYS. THESE UPDATES ARE TO AID THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS AS WE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT IN A TIMELY MANNER*
Utility and street construction is not easy. There will be dirt, mud, dust, and construction equipment everywhere. Construction activity will be noisy and getting to your residence will be difficult at times. We ask for your patience and understanding as we make the necessary improvements to your street and utilities. Do not hesitate to contact the City with questions or concerns, we can’t help if we don’t know. Contact Taylor Conger, Project Engineer, at 920.766.6305 or [email protected] with any questions.
