Alley Paving Project – Wk of 08/22/22
Asphalt removal, excavation and stone placement on the 7th/8th and 6th/7th Street alleys from Eden to Kenneth took place the week of August 15th. Click here for proposed work locations and possible impacts to residents for the week of August 22nd.
West Alleys between 6th/7th & 7th/8th Areas:
CONSTRUCTION
Due to another urgent obligation, the contractor will not be working on the alley project until Wednesday the 24th or later. It might be up to a week before the contractor can continue on the alley project. When the Contractor returns, they will continue working on the alleys between 6th Street and 7th Street. They will remove the asphalt, excavate, and place stone on the section of 6th/7th alley between Eden and the dead-end west of Foerster. This work should be done by the end of the week. Please try to avoid driving down these alleys. The fine grading and asphalt paving should take place shortly after the excavation and stone placement is complete.
East Alleys between 10th/9th, 9th/8th & 8th/Dodge Areas:
CONSTRUCTION
Contractor will begin working on the storm sewer in the alley between 8th Street and 9th Street later during the week of August 22nd. Their work will start at Boyd Avenue and work to the east toward Cleveland Avenue. The contractor will be installing storm sewer and 2 manholes from Boyd Avenue to Cleveland Avenue. The storm sewer installation will take 2 to 3 days to complete. The contractor should be starting the pavement removal, excavation, and stone placement on the East Alleys between 10th/9th, 9th/8th & 8th/Dodge sometime in late August.
DRIVEWAYS/PARKING
Access to your driveway may be restricted when construction is happening on your block. The contractor performing the work uses large machines, dump trucks, and needs ample space to store needed items for the work being performed. Please find an alternate parking space during the day if you need to come and go. You may park on side streets or areas where work is not actively happening (see attached drawing showing where NOT to park on streets). Driveways will be closed until the stone has been placed and graded. Construction normally begins by 7:00am each day.
- If you need special accommodations for parking, please reach out as we can arrange for different parking options if we know about them. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately, there is not a one size fits all for parking and the fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done and finish the neighborhood.
SAFETY
While work is taking place, the alleys will be closed to traffic. Please do not try to drive down the alleys while excavation and stone placement is taking place, there will be large equipment and dumps moving around. Please keep children away from the construction. Operators try their best to see what might be near the equipment, but their view can be obstructed at times.
*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WORK AND SCHEDULE CAN CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER OR UNFORSEEN CONSTRUCTION DELAYS. THESE UPDATES ARE TO AID THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS AS WE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT IN A TIMELY MANNER*
Utility and street construction is not easy. There will be dirt, mud, dust, and construction equipment everywhere. Construction activity will be noisy and getting to your residence will be difficult at times. We ask for your patience and understanding as we make the necessary improvements to your street and utilities. Do not hesitate to contact the City with questions or concerns, we can’t help if we don’t know. Contact Jeff Bodoh, Project Engineer, at 920.766.6305 or [email protected] with any questions.
