Posted on Aug 16, 2024 by

1-24 Concrete Street Paving Project

The contractor will start the trimming and fine grading work on Eighth Street.  They will be setting a string line for the lanes they will be paving this coming week for the trimmer and paving machine.  Later the week of August 12th, the contractor will pave the list of streets below.  While the contractor is working on a street, the street will be closed to all traffic.  The contractor will notify you before this work starts.  Please find alternate parking while this work is taking place.  You will not be able to drive on the new concrete for 7 days while it is curing and strengthening.  The contractor will trim, grade and pave the other side of the Streets once the first lane is open to traffic.

List of Streets and lanes the contractor will be working on.  The Contractor is moving up the schedule so they are done with the first lanes on Tuesday evening:

  • Eighth Street -north side -Pave Monday the 19th
  • Ninth Street – north side – Pave Monday the 19th
  • Tenth Street – north side -Pave Tuesday the 20th
  • Spring Street Eight to Alley both sides -Pave Monday the 19th
  • Quinney Avenue – east side – Pave Tuesday the 20th
  • Metoxen Avenue – east side – Pave Tuesday the 20th

One end of each alley will be open to traffic.  One lane of traffic will be open to traffic after the first lane paving. The schedule could change due to weather conditions.  The second lanes will be poured the week of August 26th.

2-24 W. Tobacnoir Street Area Utility Relay

  • Northeast Asphalt – Has multiple paving crews on site today. Due to yesterday’s rain, they were unable to make progress with road paving. They will be trying to get as much asphalt placed today as possible before the rain comes back. If the weather cooperates long enough, they may be able to get all remaining areas paved by this afternoon. If the rain disrupts paving, they will attempt to complete whatever remains tomorrow, Saturday the 17th or Monday the 19th (weather dependent). Please allow newly placed asphalt an hour or two to cool/fully harden before driving on it if at all possible. It is placed at 250-300°F and is rolled to gain strength.
  • Carl Bowers Construction – Will be restoring grass areas after completion of paving.

5-24 Kenneth Avenue Utility Relay Project

Arthur Street Area – The paving contractor will finish milling the remaining concrete in the street and fine grade Arthur Street on Friday August 16th. The currently is planning on paving Arthur Street on Saturday August 17th depending on the weather. If they can’t pave on Saturday due to the weather, the street will be paved early the week of August 19th.  The asphalt paving contractor will also pave the areas where the sidewalk was removed with asphalt pavement.

Arthur will be closed for about a day after the paving is complete, so please find alternative parking

DRIVEWAYS/PARKING – Please do not park on the road while the contractor is performing their work in the area. They need plenty of room for their trucks and equipment to be able to easily, quickly, and safely complete their work. Park in your driveway if possible, or on the nearest side street.

  • If you need special accommodations for parking, please reach out as we can arrange different parking options. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately, there is no “one size fits all” for parking and property access. The fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done on your block and move on.

WORK ZONE SAFETY – While driving through the construction site, be sure to travel slowly and keep an eye out for equipment. This not only cuts down on dust, but also keeps the construction workers safe. Operators try their best to see traffic, but their view can be obstructed at times. It is always best to try and gain eye contact with equipment operators prior to driving by. You may need to wait at times before driving by depending on the work being performed. Please be patient during construction.

*  PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WORK AND SCHEDULE CAN CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER OR UNFORSEEN CONSTRUCTION DELAYS. THESE UPDATES ARE TO AID THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS AS WE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT IN A TIMELY MANNER  *

Please do not hesitate to contact our Engineering Department with any questions or concerns. We can’t help if we don’t know.
