ROAD CONSTRUCTION UPDATES – WEEK OF MAY 27-31

Posted on May 24, 2024 by

Monday is a holiday so there will be no active work on site. Crews will be working tomorrow to make sure project area is cleaned up a bit for the long weekend. There will still be equipment and materials on site but they should be condensed to a smaller area and not scattered too much.

1-24 Concrete Street Paving Project

The City will be reconstructing Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, Spring Streets and Quinney, Metoxen Avenues this Summer.  This will include the parking area along Tenth Street by Horseshoe Park.  The work in this area will start in mid-June with storm sewer work.  The work is scheduled to be complete in mid to late September when the landscape work is complete.  These streets will be signed for “No Through Traffic” during most of the construction and parking will be restricted.   The City is trying to minimize traffic in this area so construction can proceed quicker.  See the map of the construction area.

5-14 Kenneth Avenue Utility Relay Project

  • Kenneth Avenue/Third Street Area-The contractor has installed water main along Kenneth Avenue between Brill Street and Park Street the week of May 20th.   They will be installing water main along Kenneth between Park Street and Klein Street the week of May 28th. The grading on Third Street/Kenneth Avenue between 305 W. Third Street and Park Street will be taking place on May 24th, depending on weather.   They will be paving this section of street on May 28th, depending on weather. The Kenneth Avenue/Third Street area may be closed at times, please use the detour shown on the attached map.
  • Arthur Street Area- No work happening at this time.

2-24 W. Tobacnoir Street Area Utility Relay

  • Carl Bowers ConstructionWill continue to have 2 crews on site next week. Starting Tuesday, one of them will continue working on Sanitary Sewer construction on Kaukauna Street, then on to Division Street between Blackwell Street and the Railroad Tracks. The other crew will work on Water Main construction by completing the work on the 300 block of Brothers Street, then following the other crew by working on Kaukauna Street between Brothers and Division, then on to Division between Blackwell and the tracks if time permits. One of the crews will then work on Public Side Sewer & Water lateral replacement on the 300 block of Brothers. This is the section that the City pays for between the Main utility line and the sidewalk.
  • WE Energies –  WE Energies will continue working on their gas replacement project in the neighborhood as shown on the attached map. We have received concerns about sidewalk accessibility in relation to this project. WE Energies has been notified and they have relayed those messages to their contractors on site to keep one side of the sidewalk open while the project progresses, especially during the time of day when children are walking to and from school. Thank you for expressing concern on this matter!

DRIVEWAYS/PARKING – Please do not park on the road while the contractor is performing their work in the area. They need plenty of room for their trucks and equipment to be able to easily, quickly, and safely complete their work. Park in your driveway if possible, or on the nearest side street.

  • If you need special accommodations for parking, please reach out as we can arrange different parking options. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately, there is no “one size fits all” for parking and property access. The fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done on your block and move on.

WORK ZONE SAFETY – While driving through the construction site, be sure to travel slowly and keep an eye out for equipment. This not only cuts down on dust, but also keeps the construction workers safe. Operators try their best to see traffic, but their view can be obstructed at times. It is always best to try and gain eye contact with equipment operators prior to driving by. You may need to wait at times before driving by depending on the work being performed. Please be patient during construction.

*  PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WORK AND SCHEDULE CAN CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER OR UNFORSEEN CONSTRUCTION DELAYS. THESE UPDATES ARE TO AID THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS AS WE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT IN A TIMELY MANNER  *

Please do not hesitate to contact our Engineering Department with any questions or concerns. We can’t help if we don’t know.
