ISLAND STREET RECONSTRUCTION

Construction

Paving was completed Friday, 09/30 on East half of road. 1 Day Curing mix used in front of driveway. This area (see attached picture) will be open to traffic by Monday morning. This parking lot will be accessible until the Contractor comes back to grade and pave the west half of the road. That work is scheduled for next Thursday & Friday.

Driveways/Parking

City Engineering Staff and Vinton (construction contractor) have met with KU Staff on site to discuss work timelines for the duration of this section of the project. We will keep in touch to make sure access to driveways and parking lots are available when needed, and will give ample notification to when these access points will be unavailable. Due to the closure of the Island Street Bridge, there will be no other major traffic impacts associated with this work.

Safety

While driving through the construction site, be sure to travel slowly and keep an eye out for equipment. This not only cuts down on the dust, but also keeps the construction workers safe. Operators try their best to see traffic, but their view can be obstructed at times. It is always best to try and gain eye contact with equipment operators prior to driving by.

Utility and street construction is not easy. There will be dirt, mud, dust, and construction equipment everywhere. Construction activity will be noisy and getting to your residence will be difficult at times.
