DO YOUR PART – LET’S STOP THE SPREAD

CITY OF KAUKAUNA MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS TO CLOSE MONDAY, 10/19/2020

From the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, our focus and priority has been, and continues to be, on the health and safety of our employees and residents of the City of Kaukauna.  We recognize the role we can play to help protect the health and well-being of our staff and our community by following the guidance of county and state health officials and the CDC.

Due to the widespread increase of COVID-19 in our area, effective Monday, October 19, 2020, the City of Kaukauna Municipal Services Building (MSB), 1000 Islands Environmental Center, and the Street, Park, and Rec (SPAR) Building will close their doors to the general public until further notice. The Kaukauna Public Library will remain closed. The MSB will be open, however, for in-person early voting ONLY (which begins Tuesday, October 20). The MSB and the SPAR Building will be open to voters ONLY on Tuesday, November 3 for election day. All City services will continue as normal; for assistance, please use our website or call or email the appropriate department.

It is difficult, as a leader, to implement these measures when we are striving to build community, not divide and isolate.  And, like you, I am eager to get back to open doors, open recreation and community gatherings, prospering businesses, and all the things we were able to enjoy prior to the onset of the pandemic.

I am reaching out to the community – residents, visitors, and businesses in the City of Kaukauna – to ask for everyone’s help in combatting this pandemic that we are still living with.

We are experiencing an alarming surge of positive cases in Wisconsin, in the Fox Valley and right here in the City of Kaukauna – your families and your neighbors are getting sick, and the daily death toll continues to rise. Businesses are shuttering, not because of government mandate, but loss of employees and loss of customers.

My hopes are that we can come together and do better for the good of all. I am asking everyone to do your part; so our schools can get back to functioning, so our hospitals are no longer overwhelmed, so families can see their loved ones in long-term care facilities, so businesses can open their doors, so we can all get back to a sense of security and normalcy.

We are all tired of having our lives interrupted by this pandemic, but we cannot let our guard down, and we cannot sustain the path we’re on if we don’t contain the spread of this disease.  I’m calling on all of you to take personal responsibility and please follow the health guidelines – wear a mask in public, maintain social distancing, wash your hands, stay home if you are sick.

I am also calling on local businesses to act responsibly in the conduct of your workplaces and facilities – only you can control your business environment and help stop spread amongst your employees, your patrons, and all those they come in contact with.

We all want this to be over, but in times of crisis, we need to take action. Please do your part!
