New Parking Restrictions for Street Sweeping and Leaf Collection
On February 21, 2018, the Common Council adopted Street Sweeping and Fall Leaf Pick-Up Parking Restrictions in order to help comply with the City’s Municipal Storm Water Discharge Permit. The parking restrictions will be in effect on your regular garbage collection day from April 1st through the Friday before Thanksgiving. Hours of enforcement are 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on residential streets. The new parking restrictions will be enforced beginning July 1, 2018.
Why is the City making this change in parking regulations?
- To improve street sweeping, leaf collection, and garbage collection efficiency by removing parked vehicles from streets while crews are working.
- To reduce the amount of debris on streets that detracts from the appearance of your neighborhood.
- To reduce the amount of debris reaching the storm drain system and its eventual discharge into streams, rivers and lakes.
- To comply with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) Municipal Storm Water Discharge Permit.

When is my street swept?
- The districts for street sweeping correspond to your regular garbage collection day; if it is your collection day, please do not park on the street.
- The districts are shown on the official Sweeping Map on file at the Engineering Department and on the City webpage.

Where am I supposed to park?
- On your garbage day, park in your driveway, your garage, or ask a neighbor if you may park in their driveway until the sweeper has finished cleaning your street.
Will I get a ticket if I move my car before the sweeper passes by?
- The emphasis of this ordinance is compliance through education. The City will make efforts to remind you of the new rule and does not intend to use citations as a first reaction.
- Citations may be issued if the sweeper must repeatedly (week after week) go around parked vehicles.
Where are the “no parking” signs? Aren’t they supposed to be on every street?
- Entire neighborhoods can be posted for parking enforcement without posting the ends of every block. The signage for your neighborhood will be placed at main entrances to your district.
What about storage containers, garbage cans, portable basketball hoops, dumpsters, and work trucks?
- Storage containers, garbage cans, and portable basketball hoops are never permitted on city streets.
- Temporary dumpsters kept in the City street must have Street Dept. approval. If you have questions about the placement of a dumpster, call 920-766-6337 during business hours.
- Your contractor should be advised of your street sweeping day and try to have work trucks off the street when the sweeper passed.
