1-26 Concrete Street Paving Project

Week of August 24th

  • Martell-Complete sidewalk/Driveways (M)
  • Highway-Backfill and restore 9th Street (W-F)
  • Utility Traffic-Set up traffic control Bens Way, Setter & Boxer (W)
  • TNT-Concrete staking 1st sides of Brill/Eden/Sullivan/Hendricks (F)
    • Stake fine Grades (Bens, Setter & Boxer)

3-26 Alley Paving Project

  • The Seventh/Eighth Alley and the Dixon/Seventh Alley are complete.  If grass was planted along the alley behind your property, we ask that you water it when there is no rain.
  • The contractor plans to start work on the Fourth/Fifth alley the week of August 24th.  They will start removing the existing pavement, excavation, and placing stone in these alleys.
  • The contractor may be removing and replacing the alley apron on the Thirteenth/Fourteenth alley at the Main Avenue the week of August 24th.

7-26 Ann Street & Main Avenue Utility Relay

  • Feaker & Sons – Will be starting utility work on Main Avenue. They will replace the sanitary sewer main, starting at 17th Street and working south toward Henry Street. Once this is done, they will work to replace sewer laterals from the new main in the road toward the sidewalk. This utility work should take a couple of weeks to complete. Paving and private work will follow.
    • While performing sewer main replacement, you will have access to your driveway at the start and end of each workday (approx. 7am and 5pm). If you must come and go during the day, it would be advised that you find an alternate place to park your vehicle, as access on Main Avenue will be very limited. The sewer runs down the center of the road and is 8′-10′ deep.
  • Northeast Asphalt – Will be on site next week to perform asphalt paving on the roadway and sidewalk areas. Their plan is to mill the road Monday, prep it for pavement Wednesday, then pave Thursday and Friday if needed. Here are a few reminders for this work:
    • The road is paved in halves. Once one side is completed, they will come back to pave the other side.
    • Do not park on the street. Any vehicles on the street prevent this work from being completed. If there are any vehicles left on the street while they are trying to do this work, they will knock on doors to find out who the car belongs to. If they can’t locate the owner, the car may be towed to allow this work to be done.
    • Asphalt is extremely hot when freshly placed. It gains its strength through compaction and cooling. Do not go onto the freshly placed asphalt.
    • Allow for a few hours to pass before walking and/or driving on the asphalt. The longer the better, but if you must get into or out of your driveway, please let at least 4 hours pass by first.
    • Driving on the asphalt before it is fully cooled can result in tire ruts being left in the pavement or stones within the pavement to be ripped up, leaving a bump.

General Notes

DRIVEWAYS/PARKING – Please do not park on the road while the contractor is performing their work in the area. They need plenty of room for their trucks and equipment to be able to easily, quickly, and safely complete their work. Park in your driveway if possible, or on the nearest side street.

  • If you need special accommodations for parking, please reach out as we can arrange different parking options. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately, there is no “one size fits all” for parking and property access. The fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done on your block and move on.

WORK ZONE SAFETY – While driving through the construction site, be sure to travel slowly and keep an eye out for equipment. This not only cuts down on dust, but also keeps the construction workers safe. Operators try their best to see traffic, but their view can be obstructed at times. It is always best to try and gain eye contact with equipment operators prior to driving by. You may need to wait at times before driving by depending on the work being performed. Please be patient during construction.

*  PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS WORK AND SCHEDULE CAN CHANGE DUE TO WEATHER OR UNFORSEEN CONSTRUCTION DELAYS. THESE UPDATES ARE TO AID THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS AS WE ALL WORK TOGETHER TO COMPLETE THIS PROJECT IN A TIMELY MANNER  *

Utility and Street Construction is not easy. There will be dirt, mud, dust, equipment, and workers everywhere. Construction activity will be noisy, and getting to your residence will be difficult at times. We understand that it can be frustrating while it happens, but we ask for your patience and understanding as we make the much needed improvements to your street and utilities. Please do not hesitate to contact our Engineering Department with any questions or concerns. We can’t help if we don’t know.
