Annual Report
The Kaukauna Fire Department is a combination fire department that consists of 24 full-time paid staff and 11 active paid-on-call members. All full-time staff are cross-trained as firefighters and licensed paramedics. Each shift is comprised of 7 firefighters that include the ranks of Assistant Chief, Lieutenant, two Driver/Operators, and two Firefighter/Paramedics. Administrative day staff consists of the Fire Chief, Assistant Chief of Emergency Medical Services, and Assistant Chief of Training.
In addition to fire suppression and emergency medical services, we provide swift water rescue, ice rescue, confined space entry, trench rescue, and extrication services. The fire department actively pursues fire prevention through regular inspections and public education activities.

Entry level Full-time employees are required to be a Certified Fire Fighter I and current licensure as a State of Wisconsin Paramedic.
Kaukauna Fire Department is a full-time career fire department that is staffed full-time with Fire Fighter/Paramedics. We also have a Paid-On-Call staff of Fire Fighters that is used for various fire related situations. The Kaukauna Fire Department consists of a Fire Chief, 5 Assistant Fire Chiefs, 3 Lieutenants, and 15 line personnel of various ranks represented by Kaukauna Fire Fighters Union Local 1594. In addition, there are 11 paid-on-call Fire Fighters as noted above.
Yes. Our intern program is available and coordinated in conjunction with those individuals enrolled in the Fire Protection Program at Fox Valley Technical College.
Yes. Our ride-along program is specifically designed for those individuals who are currently enrolled in either the EMT-Basic or EMT-Paramedic program at Fox Valley Technical College.
No, the Kaukauna Fire Department is a full-time career department. The Department does however utilize Paid-on-Call staff.
The following guidelines must be observed when using a fire pit within the City limits –
- Fire pit must not exceed 4-feet by 4-feet by 3-feet high.
- Must be located a minimum of 25-feet away from any combustible and at least 10-feet from any lot line.
- Must be attended at all times while burning.
- A fire extinguisher or hose must be accessible to the fire pit at all times during burning.
- Burning is prohibited if the wind speed is greater than 10 miles per hour.
- Fire must be extinguished completely when burning is complete.
- All burning must be done in a safe and nuisance-free manner as specified by the Kaukauna Fire Department.
Any questions on the location or construction of a fire pit should be directed to the Building Inspector at 920.766.6325. Questions on usage should be directed to the Fire Department at 920.766.6320.
- An annual permit is required.
- The permit can be issued at any time during the calendar year and expires on December 31st of the year issued.
- On the day you intend to burn, you must contact the Kaukauna Fire Department at 766-6320 and inform them of your intent. Please have your permit number readily available.
- Burning can be done between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 30 minutes before sunset.
- Burning will not be conducted without a permit and/or if wind conditions exceed 10 mph. You may contact us to find out the current wind conditions.
- A fire extinguisher or hose must be on site of the burning.
- The size of the pile of material to burn must not exceed 4ft by 4ft by 3 ft high.
- The suggested minimum distance from any combustible is 25 feet (Distances less than 25 feet from combustibles are subject to fire department approval prior to burning).
- Material to be burnt must be 10 ft. off the property line.
- Property owners or renters may burn yard waste. This does not include business and industry. Yard waste is defined as leaves, grass clippings, yard and garden debris, and brush, including clean, woody vegetative matter smaller than six inches in diameter.
- Burning is to be attended at ALL times.
- Upon completion of daily burning, the fire must be completely extinguished.

Yes, a permit is needed if you burn any yard waste such as leaves or brush. Burning permits are available at the Fire Department free of charge.
