Construction Updates for the week of July 27-31

1-26 Concrete Street Paving Project

Week of July 27th

  • VCC will set string line and fine grade the north side of 9th street (F, M&T)
  • VCC will be paving the north side of 9th Street Paving (even number addresses) on Wednesday.

Week of August 3rd

  • VCC will be setting string line and fine grading the south lane of 9th Street (odd address side) (M&T)
  • VCC will be paving the south side of 9th Street and fine grading is complete.

2-26 Wisconsin Avenue Area Utility Relay

  • Carl Bowers & Sons – All their work has been completed.
  • City of Kaukauna – Is doing the concrete replacement on Wisconsin Avenue. They are doing Wisconsin in halves in order to keep it open to at least one direction of traffic. They are using a concrete mix that cures/hardens quicker to full strength to allow traffic on it sooner after approximately 24 hours. They will pour the remaining patches on Monday and Tuesday next week – with plans to have the street completely open by Wednesday. Weather can affect this work, if so, expect this to be completed a day or so later.
  • MCC Asphalt – MCC will be coming to the job site Monday, August 3rd to begin the asphalt pavement portion of this project. More details to come on next week’s update.
  • Scott Lamers Construction – Still waiting on a firm date for when private sewer/water work will begin.

3-26 Alley Paving Project

  • The contractor will continue to install storm sewer in the Dixon/Seventh Street Alley.  Next week they will install storm sewer in the Seventh/Eighth Street Alley.
  • The excavating contractor will be excavating the Dixon/Seventh Street Alley next week.  They may start the excavation and stone placement on the Seventh/Eighth Street Alley later next week.

7-26 Ann Street & Main Avenue Utility Relay

  • Feaker & Sons – Will resume water main construction throughout the week.

General Notes

DRIVEWAYS/PARKING – Please do not park on the road while the contractor is performing their work in the area. They need plenty of room for their trucks and equipment to be able to easily, quickly, and safely complete their work. Park in your driveway if possible, or on the nearest side street.

  • If you need special accommodations for parking, please reach out as we can arrange different parking options. This includes anyone with disabilities, recent surgeries, expecting mothers, and mothers with newborns that have appointments. Unfortunately, there is no “one size fits all” for parking and property access. The fewer cars that the contractor has to work around, the faster they can get the work done on your block and move on.

WORK ZONE SAFETY – While driving through the construction site, be sure to travel slowly and keep an eye out for equipment. This not only cuts down on dust, but also keeps the construction workers safe. Operators try their best to see traffic, but their view can be obstructed at times. It is always best to try and gain eye contact with equipment operators prior to driving by. You may need to wait at times before driving by depending on the work being performed. Please be patient during construction.

Utility and Street Construction is not easy. There will be dirt, mud, dust, equipment, and workers everywhere. Construction activity will be noisy, and getting to your residence will be difficult at times. We understand that it can be frustrating while it happens, but we ask for your patience and understanding as we make the much needed improvements to your street and utilities. Please do not hesitate to contact our Engineering Department with any questions or concerns. We can’t help if we don’t know.
