Kaukauna no longer in contract with Flock Safety

KAUKAUNA, Wis. – After careful consideration, the City of Kaukauna made the decision to not renew its contract with Flock Safety, which expired in June of 2026.

In June of 2023 the city entered a 3-year contract with Flock Safety for the use of six Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs). One of the main functionalities that appealed to the city was the ability to work with area communities also using Flock ALPRs to identify suspects traveling outside of city limits.

In recent months, multiple municipalities have decided to discontinue their contracts with Flock Safety due to privacy concerns such as the inability to audit data sharing and the lack of account security.

“It is not fiscally responsible for the city to continue to invest in the Flock Cameras with the concerns that have been raised and the inability to partner with area communities,” said Jamie Graff, City of Kaukauna Chief of Police. “We are now working with Flock to deactivate the equipment and remove it from the city.”

The City of Kaukauna and the Kaukauna Police Department remain committed to using effective tools and investigative strategies to support public safety while responsibly managing available resources.
